The Canadian Chess Challenge is the national scholastic chess tournament for grades 1 to 12. On March 13, 2011, the Manitoba Provincial Chess Championships will be held for grades 5 to 12 at the University of Winnipeg. On March 20, 2011, the Manitoba Provincial Chess Championships will be held for grades 1 to 4 at the Asper Community Centre. At these Provincial championships, students will play to determine who will represent Manitoba at the national level for each grade. At the national level, provincial representatives from across Canada play to be crowned the national champion for their grade. The first Championship was held in 1989. This year will be the 23rd edition of the Chess Challenge and will be held in Victoria, British Columbia during the May long weekend of 2011.
The Canadian Chess Challenge is open to any student in grades 1 to 12. Registration can be done on-line, or by contactacting Jeremie Piché at (204) 237-1497 or by e-mail: jeremie.piche@scholasticchess.mb.ca. The early bird entry fee is $20.00 per student, the regular entry fee is $30.00 per student. Any registrations after the regular registration deadline are $40.00 per student.
